Come join me on a journey south, to Patagonia, Antarctica, and the Southern Ocean.
A native of Michigan (USA), Robin has always been drawn to the polar regions. For her Master’s Thesis in Geology at Vanderbilt University, Robin worked with a team in the Central Transantarctic Mountains, mapping and interpreting geologic outcrops in the Beardmore Glacier area. While she fell in love with Antarctica, she became ever more committed to sharing her experiences from extreme parts of the Earth, first and foremost being the need to preserve and protect the Antarctic environment. Robin has given over 100 lectures and presentations about Antarctica to audiences all over the U.S., and presented her research at scientific meetings including SCAR (Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research). While working at the U.S. Geological Survey in California, and later at the Arizona State Geological Survey, Robin maintained her passion for polar region research and outreach. Later as a public school teacher, Robin was selected to join the ANDRILL (Antarctic Geologic Drilling) team as an Educator for the ARISE program, representing the United States.

Dividing her time between McMurdo Station science support and the Mackay Sea Valley seismic survey during the 2007 season, Robin had over 2000 students from Michigan following her expedition and blog. She conducted several live conferences with students of all ages, and involved them in an authentic research experience from the ends of the Earth.
Robin’s passion is communicating the complexities of the research and natural worlds in accessible and interesting ways to non-scientific audiences. Robin worked as a geologist on research vessels in the South Pacific and offshore California, and she was a shipboard naturalist on cruises to Mexico, Costa Rica and Panama. This is Robin’s first Seabourn Cruise, as she takes a short leave of absence from her 4th grade classroom at Bach Elementary School in Ann Arbor to join the Quest on this voyage. She is thrilled to be bringing her passion back down to the ice and to be "bringing" her students with her on the journey.
